For the second time in three days, the Pierre Governor soccer team would have split results with the girls winning 3-1 over Watertown, but the boys falling 2-0 to Jefferson.
In the Governor boys game, Watertown would score both goals in the first half, but as the Governors locked them down defensively, Pierre couldn’t find the back of the net either and were shutout for the second straight game to open the season. Carter Templeton in net, helped the Govs keep the game within reach, but Pierre falls to 0-2 and will look for its first goals and win on Saturday against Sioux Falls Christian. Watertown improves to 4-0 on the season and have shutout its third opponent in four game.
In the girls game, Lexie Hillmer added two more goals to get four in the first two games of the season as she put the Govs in front 2-1 at the half. Myah Fravel had a PK goal to make it a 3-1 lead and it was the final score for the second straight game for Pierre as the girls improve to 2-0 on the season while Watertown drops to 2-2 with the loss. Emlyn Swanson earns here second win of the season allowing just one goal in each of the first two games.
Pierre will travel for the first time and only time in the first seven games of the season. The Govs will take on Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday with the girls playing at 12:00 and the boys game scheduled for 3:30 at Sioux Falls Christian School.
