After falling short of making the SoDak 16 last season, the Pierre Governor volleyball team look to turn things around heading into the 2026 campaign which begins next week.
Pierre graduated six from last year’s team, although lost Paige Sporrer to injury early on in the season. The Govs will have a different look around the court with plenty of those seniors getting playing time throughout the season. Pierre finished at 3-17 and in 18th place, outside of the SoDak 16 spots. The Govs will open up with a tough challenge taking on Stevens who was upset in the SoDak 16 despite having a 26-12 record. With a lot of new faces, Carrie Wheelhouse enters her third year as the head coach says they’re leaning on those seniors as practices have begun…
There’s plenty of freshman moving into the high school teams for this year and Wheelhouse says they’re bringing the energy to practice…
After missing the SoDak 16 last year, Wheelhouse has been talking about working towards the goal and getting better everyday…
The Governors open the season on Friday and Saturday next weekend at home hosting Rapid City Stevens and Central.
