The Pierre Governor tennis team would come away with two wins in duals on the weekend finishing at 2-3 to open the season at home beating Yankton and Spearfish of the five duals.
On Thursday, Pierre would face the Stevens Raiders and would fall in all nine matches as the Raiders finished 4-0 on the weekend not dropping a single match winning 9-0 in all four duals. Then on Friday, Pierre would split its day with a 7-2 loss to Rapid City Christian but would get a massive ESD and AA win beating Yankton 5-4. In the Rapid City Christian dual, Adrian Hand would get the win in singles flight three while Hand and Gemma Stangeland would get a win in doubles flight two. Hand and Stangeland would finish the day 2-0 in doubles with a win against Yankton while Hand would finish Friday at 4-0 with also going 2-0 in singles. Elise Bowers in flight one and Eliza Mayer in flight two would win their singles matches helping get the one match win as Avery Schwartz and Ainsley Dilges grabbed their first career varsity win in doubles flight three to secure the win.
On Saturday, Pierre again would go 1-1 beating Spearfish 8-1 and narrowly falling to Huron 5-4. In the Huron dual, Bowers and Mayer would get a win in flights one and two and then Emma Barnett would grab the win in singles flight six, one of two first career varsity wins picked up on Saturday. Hand and Stangeland would get the win in doubles flight two. In the Spearfish matchup, Pierre would dominate with Mayer, Hand, Schwartz, Dilges and Barnett all getting wins in flights two through six respectively while sweeping the doubles as Bowers and Mayer in flight one, Hand and Stangeland in flight two and then Schwartz and Dilges in flight three. Overall, Hand would have the best weekend going 7-3 on the weekend including going 4-1 in doubles with Stangeland.
Pierre is 2-3 to start the season and will be in Madison next weekend to play in the Madison Tournament. The two day event begins at 9:00 AM on Friday.
