The Pierre Governor soccer team would get to the state semifinals in the 2025 season before falling to the eventual state champion Harrisburg and now the Govs are looking to build off the success.
The Govs finished at 13-3-1 and offensively scored two or more goals in every single win while also having four shutouts. However, nearly half the goals from last year have graduated with Natalie Flottmeyer having 12, Jasmine Jost with eight and Kinslee Pfeffer having two for 22 of the 49 goals to graduate, but Lexie Hillmer returns for her junior campaign after leading the team in goals with 15. Emlyn Swanson returns as the starting goalie with her four shutouts and 13 wins allowing just 20 goals in 17 games. A few other returners are junior Katelyn Taylor and sophomore Zoey Bauer. The Governors have six of its first seven games at home starting with Jefferson on Tuesday and Kira Swenson, head coach of the Pierre Governors says being at home will help make the girls feel comfortable at the start of the season…
Swenson believes these players can play different positions and can move pieces comfortably into different spots which can make this team dangerous this year. She says what you see for game one lineup may not be how game two lineup will be and so on at least for the first couple of games…
The Governor soccer team is scheduled to open the season on Tuesday at home against Jefferson before facing Watertown on Thursday.
