The Four Corners baseball team’s season would come to an end Sunday afternoon finishing out the first round with a 13-2 loss to the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks in Mitchell at the Class B State Amateur Tournament.
4C would commit 10 errors and allow eight unearned runs which were the first eight of nine runs to score being unearned allowing the Wood Ducks to control a 9-2 lead. The Wood Ducks would take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third on a one out single and error to score two runs before another error would score the third run of the inning. Four Corners would cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth. After the bases were loaded with nobody out, a double play made it second and third with two outs, but Austin Hand would drive in both runs with a two RBI single. However, it was all Four Corners could get as they had just six hits in the ball game and it wasn’t until the top of the ninth when the four running inning was all earned against the 4C pitching staff. Along with Hand’s two RBI single, Brad Hand, Noah Hainy and River Iverson each had a hit with Matt Lusk having two hits and scoring one of the two runs for Four Corners. Jack Van Camp would take the loss on the mound going five innings allowing just four hits but giving five unearned runs of the six total with five walks and six strikeouts.
Hartford/Humboldt advances to Wednesday’s second round game while Four Corners’ season comes to an end with an 11-7 record.
