Both the Class A and B state tournaments will get started this week with the Class B state tournament starting today in Mitchell with the Class A state tournament getting going on Friday in Yankton before finishing in Mitchell.
Tonight, the Class B tournament will feature the first two games of the state tournament which will pit Elk Point and Parkston and then Valley Springs and Kimball/White Lake. Then from Thursday through Sunday, the 32 team state tournament, there will be four games each day which will also start the second round on Sunday. Once Monday comes around there will be two games per day leading up to the state championship on Sunday, August 16.
The Class A state tournament won’t start until Friday which is played in Yankton. The eight team double elimination tournament will see two teams be eliminated on the weekend before the following weekend to be played in Mitchell and both Cadwell Park and Drake Field. The field will get paired down to the final two teams with the championship being a winner-take-all game instead of having an if necessary game if the undefeated team loses.
First pitch tonight between Elk Point and Parkston will be at 5:30 this evening followed by Valley Springs and Kimball/White Lake. Brookings and Tea will start the Class A state tournament in Yankton at 5:30 on Friday. You can see a full look at the brackets below.
