The Spearfish Sasquatch are once again on top of the Independence League with a sweep of the Caper Spuds this weekend as the Sasquatch are back-to-back champs with 8-5 and 12-9 wins.
Casper would do its best to hang tough in both games as the offense for Spearfish would score 20 runs in two games, but the Spuds ran out of steam after playing three grueling games against the Oahe Zap earlier in the week. Casper had tied the first game up 3-3 in the top of the eighth, but a bases loaded two RBI single and a sacrifice fly made it 8-5 for Spearfish to take game one of the series. On Saturday, Casper would take an 8-6 lead in the top of the fourth and hold on to it for another inning, but the Sasquatch again used its offensive force and scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and another two in the sixth to lead 12-8. Malakai Lopez had the team leading four RBIs in the win as he, Grant Sommers and Kendrick Aragon each had home runs in the fifth for the Sasquatch including Lopez and Sommers going back-to-back in a fitting way to take the lead for good and win a second straight ILB championship.
Spearfish finishes the year 30 games over .500 at 40-10 while Casper finishes as the runner up with a 29-23 overall record.
