PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Pierre/Fort Pierre Rotary Club donated a 10-thousand dollar gift to the Highmore Area Foundation for recovery efforts from a June 29th wind storm. A 131 mile an hour wind gust and frequent gusts over 100 slashed a five-by-50 mile damage path through the Hyde County seat. The Highmore Area Foundation created the Recovery Efforts Fund to accept donations such as the one from the Pierre/Fort Pierre Rotary. Highmore Area Foundation chair Paula Haiwick says they are humbed by the Rotary donation. Donations to the recovery fund are administered and accepting in part through the South Dakota Community Foundation. The Highmore Foundation Council guides distribution decisions, directing funds to local non-profits doing hands-on recovery work. Grant applications for distributions from the Highmore Recovery Fund are being accepted with grants being awarded in August.
