This weekend, it’s the finale of the Independence League as the Spearfish Sasquatch look for a second straight title as they take on the Casper Spuds in a best-of-three series all in Spearfish.
The Spuds were able to survive at home in three games over the Oahe Zap coming back from a 1-0 deficit in the series to win the last two games to reach the title series. All three games were decided in the last inning including a 14 inning walk off win to advance to the championship series. Both teams look to use that series to their advantage to win this weekend. Spearfish has not played and wants to use the extra rest to be the fresher team while Casper feels like it can carry momentum into the series with the walk off wins and Spearfish will end up being rusty after not playing for the last week. Spearfish finished the regular season at 38-10 while Casper is now 28-21 on the year. Spearfish won the season series against the Spuds winning 10 of 15 games and have won the last six meetings against Casper which includes the final series against the two teams when the Sasquatch had a four game sweep of Casper outscoring the Spuds 54-25 scoring at least 12 runs in all four games. In fact, Spearfish has scored 10 plus runs in the last 10 games scoring a total of 163 runs going 9-1 in those games.
The series finale will begin tonight with game two on Saturday and the “if necessary” game three on Sunday with game times at 7:05 Central Time all in Spearfish.
