The 14U state tournament is set to be played in Pierre this weekend at both Hyde Stadium and Kelley Field as Post 8 is looking to make a deep run into this year’s state tournament and try and win the 14U state title for the second straight year.
This group from last year made the championship game in the 13U state tournament and now with the home field advantage, they are set to be one of the top teams heading into the state tournament. After picking up wins last weekend and on Monday, Post 8 is 26-4on the season with in state losses to Brandon Valley, Tea and Rapid City Post 22. The Eights will have to face Tea in its second game of the tournament as they play Brookings to open the day at 12:00 on Friday, then at 7:30 against Tea before wrapping up its pool play games at 7:30 Saturday night against Yankton with all games at Hyde Stadium. Pierre is hitting over .350 as a team and both Weston Terwilliger and Ben Martinec have over 30 RBIs with four players having at least 20 RBIs which includes Luke Deal and Lucius McCullough. Miles Doyle, a Post 8 alum is the head coach of the 14U team and says it’s awesome to have this state tournament in front of the home fans…
For the Eights to be 20 games over .500 Doyle says there’s plenty of factors that go into it outside of just the fundamentals of baseball…
After making the championship game last year as the 13U, Doyle says the team has the experience and knows what it takes to get to a title game…

The championship game on Sunday is scheduled for 3:30 at Hyde Stadium. Hyde Stadium games will be on Pierre Post 8 Facebook’s page with a livestream.
