PIERRE, (KCCR) — An industry lobbying group has given two inaugural awards to two South Dakota politicians. The Cigar Association of America has awarded the first Leadership in Commerce Awards to Governor Larry Rhoden and former District 24 Representative Will Mortenson of Fort Pierre. Mortenson was the prime House sponsor of House Bill 1215, to allow for the limited licensing of cigar bars across the state….
Rhoden received the award for signing HB-1215 into law. Cigar Association of America president Scott Pearce says Mortenson was pivotal in the legislature for working to license cigar bars. He says Mortenson and Rhoden demonstrated vital leadership to support small businesses in South Dakota and that leadership is what the new award is meant to recognize.
