It was the first time since 1997 when Stanley County was at the state basketball tournament until 2026. Now, as the senior class graduated and the loss of significant players on the floor, Stanley County is not looking at this as a rebuild, but a reload.
All-State player Eddie Duffy is the only member returning from last year’s starting five, opening up four new starting spots and the summer camps and the work in the offseason can be crucial to find those new four starters and bench players to be a part of this year’s team. Jack Deal, Carson Bourne and Jax Hoftiezer will return with significant playing time from last year’s state tournament squad. So far this summer, Stanley County has gone to two different team camps, one in Groton with plenty of South Dakota competition and the other in Laramie, Wyoming, the home of the Wyoming Cowboys, facing out of state competition in a crucial summer to continue to build the Stanley County program. Joey Fischer, head coach of the Stanley County Buffaloes says this is a big developmental summer and he’s not considering this a rebuild but a reload…
While the summer isn’t as intense as the true season is and Fischer isn’t as vocal during the camps and games in the summer time, he says you can see the guys buying in to what they need to do this offseason to be at the highest level of Class A basketball…
Of course, Fischer doesn’t lose sight of the joy these camps are for the guys to have some fun and have a great experience while playing basketball to make some lasting memories…
And while you can’t get wrapped up into what was accomplished last year, Fischer says it’s important to remember what Stanley County is building and can continue to accomplish this season…
Stanley County will head to the School of Mines team camp at the end of July before football practice and fall sports seasons begin.
