Dominic DeCarlo would have a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second and it was all the Zap would need as two pitchers combine for a five hit shutout of the Spearfish Sasquatch on Monday night for a 2-0 win at home for Oahe.
DeCarlo would get the sacrifice fly for the first out in the second as the Sasquatch started to hold the Zap down from there. However, Connor Goldberg would single in the sixth and get to third after a wild pitch and ground out and then score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Spearfish would never get the tying runner on base in the seventh, eighth or ninth inning as Cy Taylor would allow just one hit over the last three innings with a walk and a strikeout to record the nine out save. River Walters would go the first six innings allowing just four hits with two walks and had five strikeouts. Gavin Fraser had two hits along with Ty Farwell, Quinn Ludvigsen and Mason Melton getting a hit with Goldberg. It’s just the second win against the defending ILB champions Sasquatch this summer as Oahe is 2-8 against Spearfish.
The win puts the Zap just one game back of .500 at now 17-18, but it didn’t move them closer to the Casper Spuds who also won on Monday night, but still keeps Oahe just two games back of the Spuds with 13 games to play. Tonight is a doubleheader for the Zap and Sasquatch as they will play starting at 4:35 with first pitch of game two slated for 30 minutes after game one concludes, all at Hyde Stadium in Pierre.
