PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota’s Court system is considering putting two Judicial Circuits in western South Dakota and merging them into one. The South Dakota Unified Judicial System or U-J-S is looking to merger the administrative structures of the Fourth and Seventh Judicial Circuits. The Fourth Circuit includes Dewey and Ziebach Counties along with six other northwestern and western counties. The Seventh Circuit contains Custer, Fall River, Oglala Lakota and Pennington Counties. At least three public hearings will be held on Wednesday, August 26th to present information on the proposal and get feedback on the idea from the public. The public hearings will be conducted ahead of any formal rule proposed to the State Supreme Court. The hearings will be held in Rapid City at the Pennington County Courthouse from 8:30 to 9:30 am; Sturgis at the Meade County Courthouse from 11 am to noon Mountain Time and Lemmon at the Lonesome Dove Conference Center from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.
