SPRING CREEK, (KCCR) — A nine year-old girl from Waterloo, Iowa has died following a crash on Saturday near Spring Creek in Hughes County. According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened Saturday just after two p-m at Spring Creek Drive and Walleye Drive approximately 15 miles northwest of Pierre. The Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation of the crash indicates A 37 year-old male from Indianola, Iowa was driving a Polaris Ranger 700 utility vehicle south on Spring Creek Drive when he attempted to turn the U-T-V around. During the attempt the vehicle rolled over. The nine year-old was one of two other passengers in the U-T-V. A 16 year-old male passenger from Des Moines, Iowa received minor injuries. The driver was not injured. None of the occupants of the U-T-V were using restraint systems at the time of the crash. The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
