PIERRE, (KCCR) — Recent rains have helped lessen the impact of drought in South Dakota. Jackson County had 10-percent extreme drought eliminated and severe drought fall 10-percent. Neighboring Jackson County had severe drought go away and even a 40-percent reduction in moderate drought. Farther east, severe drought was knocked out of Tripp County. Severe drought fell 55-percent in Brule County to now 45-percent. Lyman County had a 36-percent drop in severe drought, eliminating it from the county and 23-percent drop in moderate drought this week. Moderate drought in Haakon County fell 91-percent to zero present. Haakon, Stanley, Hughes, Hyde, Hand Ziebach and Sully Counties are now only 100-percent abnormally dry this week. While drought fell in most places it grew in Dewey County. Dewey County had a 41-percent increase in moderate drought last week. Statewide the biggest change is a 14-percent drop in severe drought and nine-percent drop in moderate drought.
