PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Rapid City man has been sentenced for assaulting a Tribal police officer on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 41 year-old Brian Bear Heals was sentenced by Judge Eric Schulte to five years and five months in federal custody with three years of supervised release or probation to follow the prison term. Bear Heals was indicted on a charge of Assaulting, Resisting and Impeding a Federal Officer in August of 2025. He pleaded guilty on March 11 of this year. Parsons says Bear Heals was fleeing from Tribal law enforcement on April 15th of last year when he intentionally hit three separate Tribal police vehicles multiple times, causing significant damage to those vehicles. Parsons didn’t say if any of the officers were injured during the pursuit. Bear Heals was taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
