While Pierre Post 8 was outscored 11-1 in the two games against Mitchell Post 18 on Tuesday, the Eights did earn a split winning the first game 1-0 before falling 11-0 in five innings in game two at home.
In game one, Carter Templeton would throw a gem allowing just four base runners in the entire game as he had two walks, a hit batter and did not allow a hit until the top of the seventh with one out. He finished with seven strikeouts on 90 pitches over the seven innings. But he had to battle the opposing pitcher Tyler Christensen who was equally as efficient. Pierre had five hits with Sutton Sonnenschein, Will Eilers and Aydan Johnson each having a hit prior to the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Hudson Stoeser would lead off the inning with a base hit. He would be moved to second on a bunt and get to third after a drop third strike and a throw to first. Jackson Goodman would step to the plate and line the first pitch into center field for a base hit to score Stoeser and the Eights had the lead allowing Templeton to finish off the complete game shutout and get the game one win.
Pierre had too many errors in game two with seven in total and had just three hits in the game in the 11-0 loss. Seven of the 11 runs were unearned against the Eights pitchers as Will Danburg would be tagged with the loss giving five runs, two earned on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Hunsley would give up another four runs, two unearned, on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts and Goodman had two unearned runs on two hits. Alec Eilers, Ryker Edson and Hunsley had the only hits in the game while Carter McCormick, the Mitchell starting pitcher had two RBIs to pace Post 18 and then had a three hit shutout with two walks and four strikeouts on 74 pitches. The loss stops the four game winning streak for Pierre.
The Eights are now 12-14 overall and 11-10 in South Dakota play while Mitchell moves to 9-8 in South Dakota games.
