FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Bad River Road, south of Fort Pierre is expected to reopen on Thursday. An eight-mile section of the gravel road leading into central Stanley County was closed on Monday after heavy weekend rains washed out a diversion to keep traffic moving while a structure was replaced over Powell Creek. Two inches of rain fell over parts of Stanley County last weekend. The South Dakota Department of Transportation ordered the road closure. Pierre Area Engineer Dean VanDeWiele says the state transpiration department will take on construction of some county projects if those projects are using federal funds for the repairs. Bad River Road was closed for three days as contractors worked to repair the diversion. Bad River Road was closed from the eastern end and junction with U-S Highway 83 to near the Victory Center Bible Camp entrance. The structure replacement has an estimated cost of 714-thousand dollars and is being installed by B-X Civil and Construction of Dell Rapids.
