FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Stanley County’s Emergency Management office has completed a comprehensive public safety plan ahead of next week’s Boots and Roots Fourth in Fort Pierre Independence Day celebrations. Officials are expecting thousands to attend rodeos, parades and concerts along with fireworks displays. Public safety officials have spent months preparing the emergency response plans for the event with first responders, municipal public works departments, transportation, state and federal agencies, event organizers and community stakeholders. Among the highlights in the plan is the National Weather Service in Aberdeen providing an on-site meteorologist for enhanced forecast support and monitoring of severe weather. A dedicated meteorologist will monitor weather specifically for Fort Pierre from June 29th to July 2nd with the on-site forecaster available July 3rd and 4th. Severe storm shelters, if needed during the week, are located at the Fort Pierre Expo Center and Stanley County Courthouse.
