Pierre Post 8 would fall in both games on Saturday as Ralston would clip the Eights 4-2 in the Saturday morning game and then Kindred would get a 10-7 win using a big second inning.
In game one, Pierre would open up with a 1-0 lead two batters into the game as Hudson Stoeser led off with a triple and Porter Hunsley would drive him in with an infield single. However, Pierre didn’t get much more after it as the only other run would come in the top of the seventh with two outs when Hunsley would get an RBI single to drive in Aydan Johnson. Ralston would get a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but the two run sixth inning would be the insurance Ralston would need to get the win. Stoeser, Hunsley and Johnson each had two hits, the only hits of the game for Pierre. Carter Templeton would go four and a third inning allowing just two runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Jackson Goodman made his senior legion debut on the mound giving up two runs on two hits over one and one third inning.
In the second game, Carter Schiefelbein would lead off the bottom of the first with his first home run of the season as the Eights led 2-0 in the first. But a seven run top of the second highlighted by a three run triple and two run homer gave Kindred a 7-2 advantage. Pierre battled to score a run in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth to make it an 8-7 game going into the top of the seventh, but a single driving in two runs gave the Kindred Vikings a 10-7 lead and the Eights went down in order in the seventh unable to make the comeback happen. Schiefelbein had two RBIs, Stoeser, Tripp Lindekugel and Johnson each had an RBI. Lindekugel tripled in the loss. Bridger Babcock would be tagged with the seven runs in the second while Ryker Edson would give up the final three runs in four an two thirds innings in relief on three hits.
Pierre is now 1-2 at the Dakota Classic and will face Columbus, Nebraska who is 2-1. Pierre will need a Ralston loss to Kindred and then most likely a low scoring win to advance in the pool. Coverage against Columbus, Nebraska begins at 11:45 on YouTube at KCCR Sports with first pitch at 12:00. We’ll join the game on the radio after the church service.
