Will Danburg would fire a complete game two hit shutout, as Pierre Post 8 would beat Yankton 2-0 Friday to open the Dakota Classic in Sioux Falls.
Danburg would give up just the two hits with one walk and three strikeouts as he never let a batter reach base hit with less than two outs until the bottom of the seventh. Sam Gokie was equally as excellent, but the Eights were able to crack one of the best players in the state with a run in the third as Hudson Stoeser would get a two out RBI single to center to score Porter Hunsley who walked with two outs to start the rally. Bridger Babcock would get the next biggest hit, the insurance RBI double in the top of the seventh with two outs to give the Eights a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, a one out single and a hit by pitch made things first and second, but a groundball to the third baseman Tripp Lindekugel as he would step on the bag at third and fired to first to get the double play to win the ballgame. Jackson Goodman also had a double and Will Eilers and Carter Schiefelbein each had a hit. Pierre gets a 1-0 start in pool play but more importanly wins the South Dakota matchup which will be towards the season ending standings.
Pierre will play Ralston, Nebraska at 9:30 Saturday morning and then Kindred, North Dakota at 7:30 Saturday evening. Coverage of both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
