PIERRE, (KCCR) — It took nearly nearly four hours but local races have indicated change at the local level in Pierre and Fort Pierre. Some questions remain in the Pierre mayor race as the race indicated a possible recount when the final precinct was reported. Originally the results showed a possible recount between City Commissioner Todd Johnson and incumbent Mayor Steve Harding at an even 50-50 percent tally. However, a short time later, the races reflected Johnson winning by a 54-46 margin with Johnson taking 2,048 votes and Harding 1,750. Madisyn Neibauer easily carried a 50-plus percent advantage all night to become the next member of the Pierre School Board. Neibauer defeated Rochelle Kenzy who had 32-percent of the vote and George Seamon, Jr. who had 14-percent of the vote. In Fort Pierre, voters elected current Alderman Greg Kenzy mayor as he defeated incumbent Mayor Gloria Hanson 53-percent to 47-percent. Voters ousted both Cronins from their respective Wards. In Ward II, Kristin Gabriel beat incumbent Rick Cronin 59-percent to 41-percent. In Ward I, it’s much closer. Within recount margins, Kevin Tiger defeated Larry Cronin 51-percent to 49-percent or by five votes.
