Pierre Post 8 would fall in both games to Harrisburg by four runs as Post 45 would win 5-1 in game one and 9-5 in game two in Pierre Wednesday night to open the season.
Harrisburg would score two runs in the first inning in each game as the Eights did answer with a run in game one in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch, but a three run third inning was all that was needed for Post 45 to claim the first win of the year. Dalton Wendling would have three RBIs in the first game win as Jaxson Roesler and Rylan Cody would each have an RBI for Harrisburg. Bridger Babcock would take the loss on the mound going six innings allowing five runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout as he was one bloop single away from going six innings of only two runs allowed. Andrew Dierks went the distance for Harrisburg giving up just four hits with one unearned run. Hudston Stoeser, Sutton Sonnenschein, Will Eilers and Ryker Edson each had a hit.
In game two, the biggest hit of the game was the grand slam in the top of the sixth by Bryson Esser to make it a 9-1 lead for Harrisburg as the Eights couldn’t string any hits together. But in the bottom of the seventh, four walks and two hit by pitches along with an error scored four runs for Pierre and had the bases loaded and the tying run to the plate, but Harrisburg was able to get a strikeout to end the game and keep the tying run from reaching base. Stoeser and Edson each had an RBI in the loss while Sonnenschein and Babcock along with Stoeser each had a hit. Parker O’Bryan would leave the game after four and a third innings with an apparent arm issue as he gave up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Hudson Shaffer finished off the game with five runs on two hits over the final two and two thirds.
Pierre will look for the first win on Friday as they travel to Brookings to face the Bandits. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 with coverage at 4:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
