PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Farm Service Agency has announced that eligible landowners will have from the beginning of June to the end of August to review and consider base acre increases on farms enrolled in the Agricultural Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage programs. The programs became authorized under the One Big Beautiful Bill and will provide landowners with the change to update and increase base acres before enrolling in either program. Nationwide, up to 30 million new base acres can be added by eligible farms. Both safety net programs provide financial protection to farmers when market prices or revenues decline. The programs will help producers manage risk and maintain economic viability amid market challenges and weather conditions. Early communication between landowners and farm operators will ensure the Base Allocation Summary is accurate and all necessary actions are completed by the deadline. To be eligible for new base acres, a current covered commodity must have been planted or prevented from being planted on the farm during the 2019 through 2023 crop years.
