PIERRE, (KCCR) — A 19 year-old Pierre woman was arrested over the Memorial Day holiday weekend on multiple charges including speeding and a second offense drunk driving charge. Pierre Police Captain Kyle Cummings says on May 25th around 2:25 am an officer noticed a vehicle making a turn west from Garfield Avenue to Wells Drive at an apparent high rate of speed. The officer used radar to confirm Olivia Young was driving 56 miles an hour, 21 miles an hour over the posted 35 mile an hour limit. As the officer made contact with Young, during a traffic stop for speed the smell of an alcoholic beverage prompted a field sobriety test and D-U-I investigation. As a result of that investigation, Young was arrested and transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges including a second offense D-U-I; speeding, underage consumption of alcohol and driving on a revoked license.
