Today marks the start of the 2026 State Track and Field meet which will run through Saturday, all at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls and local teams will see athletes competing across the three days.
Sully Buttes
The Sully Buttes Chargers will have five boys competing at the Class B state meet with Kaydn Westergren being the lone senior the Chargers as he will throw the shot put. Junior Cooper Falkenhagen will throw the discus alongside teammate freshman Easton Moore. Sophomore Jett Yackley will throw in the javelin while freshman Hudson Barber will compete in the triple jump.
Stanley County
The Stanley County Buffaloes will have four individuals competing at the state tournament this year with seniors Trevor Caldwell and Paxton Deal competing in the boys shot put and long jump respectively. Sophomore Jace Hand will be throwing the javelin and freshman Jaxton Hoftiezer throwing the discus.
Miller
The Miller Rustlers will have just two individuals compete at the state tournament as Isaak Hunter will run both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles while Paige Werdel will be competing in the Class A long jump for the girls side.
Highmore-Harrold
The Highmore-Harrold Pirates will have three girls relay teams with the 4×400 and 4×800 with the sprint medley relay race. Autumn Fallis will run in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs while Whitley Baloun will run in the 200 and 300 meter runs. Destiny McCauley will throw the discus. Members of the relay teams are Delia Ginsbach, Jaylynn Knox, Mireya LeBeaux, Tenley McDonnell and Emma Salathe.
Jones County
The Jones County Coyotes will have the 4×800 girls relay team while BreAna Aske will compete in four individual events with the 100, 200 and 400 meter runs while also competing in the long jump. Maggie Dowling will throw in the javelin and Addison Rankin in the high jump. Julia Kinsley, Molly Nix and Aubrey Tucker will be a part of the relay team.
Gettysburg
The Gettysburg Battlers will have athletes competing from both the girls and boys team as the Battlers will have four relay teams, the 4×100, 4×400, 4×800 and sprint medley relay. Layla Cronin will run in the 1600, Finlee Heien the 300 meter hurdles and Emma Schlachter in the 800 meters. Jaydn Ahlemeier, Paige Ahlemeier, Taylor Long, Skyler Oster and Beth Seurer will all be a part of the relay teams. For the Battler boys, Easton Rausch will compete in the pole vault while Jackson Simon will run in the 300 meter hurdles and throw the javelin.
Lyman
Both Lyman Raiders teams will have multiple athletes competing in multiple events. Starting with the girls, Chloe Collins will run in the 100 and 300 meter hrudles, Claire Griffith in the high jump and pole vault and Brooke Montgomery in the 100 and 200 meter runs. Miley Erikson will run in the 100 meter hurdles and Aspen Volmer in the high jump. For the Lyman boys, Cole Kieffer will run in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles along with the high jump while Conor Samco will run in the 100 and 200 meters and compete in the pole vault. Desmerius McGhee will throw the discus and Chace Seaboy will run in the 110 meter hurdles.
Hoven
The Hoven Greyhounds will see Dannika Kaup run in four events, the 100 and 200 meter runs with then the 100 and 300 meter hurdles.
