PIERRE, (KCCR) — For the ninth time this June dozens will gather to Run with the Govs. The ninth annual Run with the Govs event is set for June 13th. The event is a fundraiser for the Trail of Governors with funding going to the Trail of Governors Foundation to support the private funding of statues and trail improvements. Statues are normally unveiled the Friday before Flag Day with the race Saturday. This year the statue presentation is being delayed due to former Governor Kristi Noem’s obligations to her role as U-S Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas. The street closures will affect Nicollet to Governors Drive on Church Street and South Dakota Boulevard from Church to Broadway. There is a 25-dollar fee to take part in Run with the Govs. Those taking part will received a t-shirt featuring ninth governor Peter Norbeck, marking the nine event. The unveiling of Noem’s statue is tentatively set for at date to be determined in August. The Noem statue will be the 32nd added to the Trail of Governors. It’s being crafted by Lemmon sculptor John Lopez.
