The Pierre Governor baseball team is scheduled to begin the state playoffs on Friday, but before those games take place, four Governors were placed on the All-Region team.
Pierre would see Carter Schiefelbein, Sutton Sonnenschein, Porter Hunsley and Carter Templeton on the All-Region team as Pierre went 20-8 during the regular season and are now 22-8 heading into the quarterfinals on Friday. Schiefelbein led the team with a .477 batting average while stealing a team high 26 bases during the regular season. He had seven doubles and five triples, all team highs. Sonnenschein led the team with 29 RBIs while hitting .385 and had three doubles and three triples. Hunsley would be both a hitter and pitcher on the All-Region team as he had three saves and an ERA at 1.31 while striking out 10 in 10.2 innings of work with a 2-0 record. Hunsley also hitting .308 with 12 RBIs, 10 steals and three doubles with a triple. Templeton, who started game one and went a complete game in the regional playoff round, threw 39 innings, second most on the team during the regular season with a 4-1 record with 44 strikeouts to just 17 walks with an ERA at 1.97. He had a one hit complete game shutout against Sturgis during the year which included an immaculate inning (nine pitches and three strikeouts).
