The Pierre Governor tennis team will officially wrap up its season this Monday and Tuesday in Rapid City playing in the Class A State Tournament.
After an eighth place finish in the ESD tournament this past Monday and Tuesday, the Govs will only see the Huron Tigers in the Class A state tournament from the conference. Pierre went 6-6 in duals against Class A teams including finishing the season at 6-2 in those duals. Now, the Govs will look to continue the upward trend at the state tournament. However, the weather is not looking like it has been and with rain and cooler weather in the forecast, it could lead the teams to play inside or at least not be able to compete in the warm temperatures like it has been. Charis Blanchette, head coach of the Pierre Governors says the potential of moving inside and outside, it becomes a part of the mental game for the state tournament…
The Governors have just one senior on the varsity roster this season and Lucas Hight will finish his Governor career playing the singles flight one tournament. Blanchette says she couldn’t ask for a better role model from someone on the court…
It’s the second straight tournament with a two day format and Monday is just as important as Tuesday as the Govs want to keep state championship hopes alive and Blanchette says the guys need to believe in themselves immediately on Monday…
Blanchette says overall for the two days is consistency and net play for the Govs…
Day one begins at 9:00 AM Central Time in Rapid City. You can see a full list of the schedule below.
