The Pierre Governor softball team would win on a walk off dropped third strike on Thursday, beating the Mitchell Kernels 2-1 to snap an eight game losing streak with just now three games remaining in the season.
Pierre was held to just two hits on the day as Ally Keyes and Emma Theilen would each get a single, but the Govs were limited with bases runners, but both hits would come around to score. Theilen would single in the sixth, the first of the game, as Chevelle Brakke would courtesy run for her and would score on an error by the Mitchell pitcher to tie the game at 1-1. Ally Keyes would lead off the bottom of the seventh with a single and after stealing second, would advance to third on the ground out and as Presley Spies would strike out swinging, the catcher would miss the ball and get to the back stop to allow Keyes to score and win the game for Pierre improving the Govs to 5-10 on the season. Mitchell falls to 3-11. McKenzi Flottmeyer would get the win giving up one run on four hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
The Governors will quickly turnaround and travel to Sturgis today to face the Scoopers. First pitch is at 5:30 Central Time in Sturgis.
