PIERRE, (KCCR) — Avera Health is celebrating a successful Race Against Cancer last weekend. Events were held at Avera facilities in Pierre, Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Mitchell, Yankton and Marshall, Minnesota. A combined total of eight-thousand 636 people took part in the events, raising over 950-thousand dollars. Locally, 362 people to part in the Pierre event. Both the registration numbers and dollars raised are new records for the annual event. The Avera Race Against Cancer support all cancer patients with funds supporting numerous projects including the Avera Cancer Institute Navigation Center. The Center is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week call center to support anyone impacted by cancer. Proceeds raised during the events will to toward lodging and transportation assistance for individuals or families, screening and early detection, genetic testing, specialized equipment and comfort items. Money raised also supports the Cancer Survivors Day, grief support for families, wigs for cancer patients and complementary therapies.
