The Pierre Governor baseball team would fall to the Jefferson Cavaliers in a doubleheader sweep at home on Saturday falling in game one 5-4 and 5-1 in game two wrapping up the regular season.
In game one, Pierre would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a wild pitch and with a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth, Bridger Babcock would get a two RBI single to give Pierre a 3-1 lead, but wouldn’t last long. A three run double from Noah Kuenzi would give the Cavs a 4-3 advantage and an RBI single added on for a 5-3 advantage in the top of the fifth. Carter Schiefelbein would get a triple in the seventh before be driven in by Porter Hunsley to make it 5-4 and with Tripp Lindekugel’s hit with two outs, the Govs had the tying run on base but could not be driven in and the Govs would drop the first game. Carter Templeton would go six and a third inning giving up five runs, two earned on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts,
Jefferson had a four run second inning in game two and led 5-0 in the top of the fourth with a home run by Cason Mediger as he had two RBIs in game two as did Brody Jacobson. Schiefelbein had the lone RBI in the game coming into the bottom of the fifth but the Govs had just three hits as Caden Voss was able to carve up the lineup with eight strikeouts. The lone run was unearned. Will Danburg would go the complete game giving up seven hits, four walks and five strikeouts.
Pierre finishes the season at 20-8 and 16-8 in South Dakota play. Pierre will be at home for the playoffs in the best-of-three series which begins on Friday and runs through Saturday against Mitchell. All games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
