PIERRE, (KCCR) — National Travel and Tourism Week ends Saturday. The Travel Coalition of South Dakota has spent the week on a media tour across the state highlight in impact tourism has on the state and local economy. In Hughes County, over 50-million dollars in labor income was earned by county residents last year due to tourism. Tourism also supported over 13-hundred jobs, which accounted for nine-point-three percent of total Hughes County employment. In Lyman County tourism spending was over 44-million dollars last year, which was 11-and-a-half percent of all visitor spending in central South Dakota. Labor income from tourism in Lyman County was just over 19-million dollars. Jones County saw just over 15-million dollars worth of visitor spending and just under four-million in labor income. In Lyman County tourism supported 565 jobs or 26-point-five percent of all Lyman County jobs. In Jones County, 129 jobs were connected to tourism last or 16-point-eight percent of all jobs in the county. Lyman County saw three-point-two million dollars in local and state tax revenue, while Jones County generated one-point-one-four million in local and state taxes.
