The 2026 Summit League Softball tournament begins today in Minneapolis, Minnesota and both South Dakota and South Dakota State will have to win to remain in the tournament.
Six teams make the conference tournament, but seeds 3-6 are not guaranteed to play more than one game as the first day is an elimination game. The two winners will advance to Thursday to face the top two seeds and it becomes a double elimination tournament the rest of the way. South Dakota will start the tournament as the four seed faces the fifth seeded Kansas City Roos before the three seed North Dakota State will face the sixth seed South Dakota State. Omaha and St. Thomas are the top seeds in the tournament and will wait to play until Thursday. Omaha has won the last three Summit League Tournaments as they went 15-2 in league play to be the top seed. USD would finish 7-11 and SDSU at 5-12. North Dakota is the only Summit League team to not make the tournament.
First pitch for USD and Kansas City is at 1:00 followed by SDSU and NDSU at 4:00 in Minneapolis.
