PIERRE, (KCCR) — A total of 20 area students have been recognized by their schools and the Associated School Boards of South Dakota for being the top One-Percent. Statewide nearly 215 students were recognized Monday for being in the top one-percent of gradating seniors. The 36th Annual Academic Excellence Recognition luncheon honored the students for academic achievement throughout their high school careers. The students received a certificate, commemorative pin and the chance to meet Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen. Venhuizen told the students being in the top one-percent of your class is quote truly remarkable and it shows a willingness to work hard. Associated School Boards President Shane Roth says the hard work the students put in is an investment in their future. Pierre had two students represented. One student each came from Agar-Blunt-Onida, Chamberlain, Dupree, Eagle Butte, Gettysburg, Haakon County, Highmore-Harrold, Hoven, Jones County, Kadoka Area, Kimball, Lyman, Miller, Stanley County, Sunshine Bible Academy, Todd County, White River and Winner.
