The Pierre Governor baseball team would get a sweep of the Spearfish Spartans winning 2-1 and 6-2 on Friday night dealing with the steady drizzle at Hyde Stadium.
The Governors would get two runs in the bottom of the first thanks to Tripp Lindekugel’s RBI hit and Parker O’Bryan’s RBI sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead and it was all Will Danburg needed to get the complete game win allowing just four hits with three walks and four strikeouts on 90 pitches. Hudson Shaffer and Lindekugel each had a triple as Lindekugel was the only player with multiple hits in the win. Both runs were unearned against the Spartans.
In game two, Pierre again would take a lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI ground out from Sutton Sonnenschein, but Spearfish would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second. However, a four error bottom of the second allowed Pierre to score two runs including an RBI hit to tie the game at 2-2. Shaffer’s double in the third, Sonnenschein’s single in the fourth and Brecken Fuhrman’s single in the sixth scored a run each to give the Govs a 6-2 lead and Brennen McCullough would also throw a complete game for the Govs allowing just four hits with one walk and six strikeouts on 82 pitches.
Pierre has now won 12 straight and the Govs are 14-4 on the season overall. Pierre will host the Rapid City Central Cobblers on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00. Coverage begins at 12:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler, Wyatt Burichka and Blake Dean on the call.
