PIERRE, (KCCR) — An Eagle Butte man has been found guilty of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child following a three-day federal trial in Pierre last week. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says a federal jury found 47 year-old Shane Burguier guilty last Thursday. The trial started Tuesday. Evidence presented to the jury established that Burguier assaulted an eight-year-old victim who woke up to find Burguier rubbing her genitals. He had pulled the victim’s underwear down to do so. The incident happened in Eagle Butte in a time frame from from January 13th to November 29th of 2015, over 11 years ago. Burguier was indicted on the charge in January of 2025. Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child carries a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 30 years in prison and up to life in prison. A 250-thousand dollar fine and five years of supervised release is also possible when Burguier is sentenced. Sentencing has not been set. A presentence investigation has been ordered prior to sentencing. Burguier is in the custody of the U-S Marshals Service pending sentencing.
