FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — If severe weather becomes as busy in South Dakota this year as it has in areas to the south people in Fort Pierre without a good storm shelter will have a new place to go. Stanley County Emergency Manager Dustin Baxter says the Expo Center in Fort Pierre has now been designated as a public severe weather shelter…
Baxter admits the placement isn’t the best…
Baxter asked and was granted 570-dollars for signage to alert citizens to the shelter location…
Baxter has a three-phase plan he wants to implement over a course of years as funding provides to increase protections and expand shelters across Stanley County.
