PIERRE, (KCCR) — The U-S Attorney’s office in South Dakota has collected over nine-point-five million dollars from convicted criminals in the offices 2025 Fiscal Year. That money accounts for criminal fines, restitution, loan defaults. Bankruptcy, forfeiture and affirmative civil enforcement efforts. The South Dakota office worked in partnership with other offices and the federal Department of Justice to recover an additional 16-point-seven million dollars. Eight-point-nine million of that was the result of criminal convictions. Just over eight-point-eight million was returned to crime victims in the way of restitution. Remaining funds were placed in the Federal Crime Victims Fund. The forfeiting of assets netted even more cash; in the form of over 65-million dollars. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons credits the hard work of the Financial Litigation and Asset Recovery Units for doing everything they can to ensure crime victims are made as whole as possible after a conviction.
