The Pierre Governor softball team will be at home for the first time this season getting its second chance at the home opener as the Govs face the Watertown Arrows in the first of two games this week.
The 1-1 Govs lost a high scoring affair last Thursday in a 22-10 loss to Yankton on the road, but the offense has now scored 27 runs in two games. The Govs have not had any worry on the offense to begin the season, but will look for a better defensive output today. For the Arrows, it finally kicks off their season after having its first two games postponed against Mitchell and Brookings, both at home. The Arrows went 4-13 last season and were the 14th seed in the SoDak 16 where they lost to Washington. However, in the four wins, Watertown beat Pierre 5-4 and 10-0 going 2-0 against the Governors winning in Watertown and in Sioux Falls. With the Govs already have played two games, Pierre will want to jump on the Arrows early looking to get its second win of the season before traveling to Brookings on Thursday.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 this afternoon at the Riggs High School Softball Field.
