The Pierre Governor baseball team had two successful days this weekend as the Governors would finish 4-0 which included not allowing a run on Saturday in two games.
Pierre allowed just four runs in total on the weekend while scoring a total of 15 runs. The Govs started the day with a 4-3 win over the Lincoln Patriots as Pierre got a great start from Will Danburg allowing just two earned runs, three overall on five hits with four strikeouts in five and two thirds innings. Porter Hunsley finished off the save getting the final four outs as Parker O’Bryan had three hits including two RBIs with his second RBI being the game winning RBI. Tripp Lindekugel brought in a run as he made the lead 3-0 in the top of the first.
Then Pierre had to go to a nine inning game to beat Grand Forks Central 2-1. A passed ball would help score the first run of the game in the bottom of the first for the Govs as a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth tied the game at 1-1 as Jonathan Neuharth would go five innings allowing just one run on three hits with three strikeouts. Hunsley went the final four innings not allowing a hit with three strikeouts. With extra innings in place, a runner would start on second. In the bottom of the ninth, Jackson Goodman would be intentionally walked to make it first and second to start the inning. An error on a pick off would allow Hudson Stoeser to score from second and win the game for the Govs to move to 2-0 on the weekend.
Pierre would get two shutouts on Saturday beating O’Gorman 1-0 to start the day. Danburg would score the lone run in the top of the second after Bridger Babcock grounded out and the throw to third was high to score the run. Brennen McCullough would throw a four hit shutout with five strikeouts on just 83 pitches. Carter Schiefelbein had a triple and O’Bryan had the only other hit for the Govs.
Pierre finished off the weekend with an 8-0 six inning win over West Fargo as Carter Templeton threw a three hit shutout with one walk and four strikeouts on just 80 pitches. Hunsley had three RBIs while O’Bryan, Goodman, Sutton Sonnenschein and Lindekugel each had an RBI. Schiefelbein had three hits in the win.
