PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Pierre City Commission has approved a union contract after months of negotiations with a new union for some city employees. City Attorney Lindsey Riter-Rapp says the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees or AFSCME negotiated 11 times with the city from October of 2025 to January of this year…
Both sides ended up at impasse and brought the issue to an Administrative Law Judge through the South Dakota Department of Labor who sided with the city…
The contract includes pay increases on par with other city workers…
The one-year deal does not include retroactive pay which is consistent with city’s long standing practice of not doing so. The Pierre City Commission approved the contract four-to-one with Commissioner Todd Johnson voting against the agreement.
