The defending USHL Champions Muskegon Lumberjacks will start the playoffs this weekend as the Lumberjacks will travel to Cedar Rapids in a best of three series.
The Lumberjacks finished in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and will have to win on the road against Cedar Rapids in the best of three series to advance to the conference semifinals. But it’s not an unfamiliar territory for the Lumberjacks. Last year, Muskegon won in three games over Cedar Rapids in the 4-5 series in Muskegon to advance to the conference semifinals where they ended up winning the Clark Cup Championship, the first in the franchise’s history. Pierre native and Pittsburgh Penguins draft prospect, Carter Sanderson is the captain of this year’s team as the Lumberjacks beginning its journey to defend the Clark Cup. Sanderson finished the regular season with 17 goals and 17 assists being in the top five of goals, assists and points for the team. Muskegon went 36-24-2 eight points behind Cedar Rapids, but had the same amount of wins as the RoughRiders. Sanderson says the team looks different than last season with a lot of guys moving around since last playoffs…
Over the course of the season compared to his first season, Sanderson gained more opportunities on the ice both as someone on the power play and on the penalty kill and was about to put 34 points up during the regular season.
