The 1-0 Pierre Governors will be at home this afternoon to take on the Mitchell Kernels in the home opener of the 2026 season at the Riggs Softball Field.
The Governors were dominant in the first game of the season with a 17-0 win over the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles. Pierre had nine extra base hits which included a home run by Alivia Heymans as Pierre drove in all 17 runs led by Ava Nelson’s five RBIs and two doubles. McKenzi Flottmeyer allowed just three hits over the three innings in the shutout victory in the circle. Mitchell has not played yet this season with the first game of the season postponed against Watertown last Tuesday. The Kernels were 6-11 last season finishing in 12th in the Class AA standings. The Kernels lost to Brandon Valley in the SoDak 16 game. Mitchell did beat Pierre 9-4 last April.
First pitch of the home opener is scheduled for 4:00 this afternoon at the Riggs Softball Field in Pierre.
