The Pierre Governor softball team wasted no time to get runs and plenty of them as the Govs would have a three inning 17-0 win over Aberdeen Central on the road on Tuesday to open the season.
Pierre scored nine runs in the top of the first and added another seven in the second and then a run in the third to get the 15 run rule win at the end of the third inning. Pierre dished out 13 hits with nine of those 13 hits going for extra bases with eight doubles. Ava Nelson had two, Ally Keyes, Charlie Hull, Micah Buffalo, Millie Johnson, Presley Spies and Taryn Spruill all had a double each. Alivia Heymans would lead off the top of the second and a solo shot to left center field as everybody in the starting lineup at least had a hit. Nelson would finish with five runs driven in while Keyes, Hull, Buffalo and Spruill each had two RBIs. McKenzi Flottmeyer would throw a three inning shutout giving up three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts on 71 pitches.
The Governors next game is its home opener on Tuesday, April 7 against Mitchell. First pitch is at 4:00 from The Riggs Softball Field.
