Sully Buttes’ senior Wesley Wittler would be named to the Class B All-State First Team as the leading scorer in Charger history capped off his historic career on the basketball court at the state tournament.
Wittler has garnered many awards over the last several years with the Chargers, but from the state tournament through now, it was an impressive finish. Wittler became the all-time scoring leader in Sully Buttes history in the first round game in Aberdeen. He was awarded the Tate Senftner scholarship along with his teammate Gavin Colson, on the All-Tournament team for Class B, awarded the Spirit of Su and finishing now with the first team All-State selection. It’s the second straight first team selection and third time being named to the All-State team overall. This year, Wittler averaged 22.3 points per game, but averaged a double-double as the 6’1 senior pulled down 10.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game. Brian White, head coach of the Sully Buttes Chargers says Wittler wasn’t even 100% healthy and played through a lot to have an outstanding season…
Wittler finished under 50 points shy of 2000 for his career and White says while his scoring was top tier, what else made him a great player wasn’t always about him scoring…
Wittler was awarded the Spirit of Su on the final day of the Class B state tournament and White says it shows the respect he’s earned from around the state to receive the prestigious award.
Grant Wilkinson of De Smet is the Class B player of the year as the two are joined by Teelen Kjerstad of Wall, Brady Schroedemeier of Viborg-Hurley, Kamden Keszler of Castlewood and David Walter of Freeman as members on the first team, All-State.
