The Pierre Governor baseball team would bounce back Sunday picking up a sweep of the Tea Titans with a 16-3 win in game one and 10-4 win in game two.
Pierre never trailed on the day but Tea battled in each of the two games as game one saw a 3-0 lead for Pierre in the top of the third vanish in the fourth as Titans tied the game at 3-3, but the Govs were able to score two in the fifth, four in the sixth and pile on seven in the seventh to get the 13 run win. Nearly everybody on the roster for the day got into the game as Carter Schiefelbein had three hits and an RBI, Sutton Sonnenschein drove in two runs along with Porter Hunsley and Ashton Johnson. Will Eilers pinched hit and had the lone triple for the game while Alec Eilers pinched hit in the next inning getting a double finishing 2-2 in the seventh with an RBI. Brennen McCullough threw a complete game allowing just one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts and did not allow a free pass. Seven of the 16 runs were unearned for the Tea pitching staff.
Pierre ran out to a 5-0 lead after two and half innings, but Tea once again battled to make it 5-4, before Bridger Babcock came in in relief to get the last out of the third and then threw four scoreless innings after that as well allowing just two hits with two walks and had seven punch outs. It settled things down for Pierre who then came back with a four run top of the fourth to jump right back into a five run lead as Parker O’Bryan, Will Danburg and Alec Eilers each had two RBIs in the second game as Schiefelbein and O’Bryan each doubled in the win. Jonathan Neuharth did get the win on the mound with two complete innings allowing two runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Pierre is now 2-2 on the season and will take on Harrisburg on the road on Thursday in a doubleheader, weather pending. Those games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with first pitch scheduled for 5:00.
