MILLER, (KCCR) — Last week, the South Dakota Department of Health issued an update to it’s online Fish Consumption Advisory list. The latest addition to the list is for Lake Louise in Hand County for Largemouth Bass. A recent review of sampling data from the lake is leading to it’s addition tot he Fish Consumption Advisory list. Most of the lakes and rivers in central South Dakota have tested clean for fish with elevated mercury levels. Roosevelt Lake in southern Tripp County was last tested in 2023 where a consumption limit was added for Largemounth bass over 18-inches and northern pike over 24-inches in length. Lake Hurley in Potter County was added to the list six years ago in 2020. That advisory is for largemouth bass over 18-inches long. Two lakes in Dewey County are on the Fish Consumption Advisory list. Little Moreau Lake was tested in 2019 with a consumption limit for northern pike over 26 inches and at Lake Isabel for Pike over 25-inches and Largemounth bass over 17-inches. The testing of lakes for the Fish Consumption Advisory dates back to 1996 in a cooperative effort between the Departments of Health, Game, Fish and Parks and Agriculture and Natural Resources.
