The Dakota State Trojans have advanced to the NAIA Elite 8 to play on Saturday with a 73-65 win over Indiana Wesleyan Thursday afternoon at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Halfway through the third, Indiana Wesleyan would take its largest lead of the game up by seven, but the Trojans were undeterred and stormed its way back into a two point lead after the third and then hit 11-15 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off any attempted comeback. Bria Wasmund led the scoring for Dakota State at 21 points on the afternoon hitting four threes. Caitlin Dyer had 15 and Teel Tabor had 10 as Dakota State hit eight threes as a team to get the win. Ayla Kreiger had a game high 30 points for Indiana Wesleyan who finish their season at 19-14. Dakota State improves to 29-5 on the year.
Dakota State will face Georgetown of Kentucky on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament. Tip off is at 1:00 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
